GCE Applied ICT - Year 12 Summer Vacation Work

This work is for current Year 12 students who want to take GCE Applied ICT in Year 13.

Use the Unit 7 Thomas Telford materials (either online with a password or from CD) to design a database for the Firestorm Medical Suppliers scenario.

1) Read the Practice Scenario carefully
2) Look at the three sample data file structures (products, suppliers, customers)
3) Use the specification template provided to plan the database

Information about what to include in the design specification is available in the Thomas Telford resources.

You will also need to use the Database Skills section throughout this work. Make sure you have been through all the skills included here by the time you return in September.

This work must be done if you want to do ICT in Year 13.

Leave any questions or problems in the comments below this post.

Deadline: 8 September 2006

Work for Mr. Jones - Monday 26 June

All students are to make sure that they are up to date with their databases work and have done the following things:

1) Read each of the database chapters in the textbook issued
2) Set up a three-table relational database with links (library database) from the book
3) Entered data for at least five people and five books
4) Created screen input forms for each of the three tables using the form wizard
5) Customised each screen input form to include a title and useful buttons
6) Check that it all works so far.

This is particularly important for those who have not attended all the lessons since the examinations. Full attendance is required to continue the course into the Upper Sixth.

Work for Mr Jones - 8 May 2006

Period 4 - Year 12 GCE ICT

Continue investigating the 'Twisted Pear' spreadsheet model. Fnd out how it works and experiment with putting data into the input sheets. Look at the other documents provided too - the word document with information about % takeup at the concerts and the mileage csv file.

Plan the formula that will be needed to calculate the best ticket price to maximaise the profits - then try it in the spreadsheet. Don't be afraid to put data into the model - you can always recover it form the shred area if it goes wrong.

Have a look at the Thomas Telford materials on this unit for guidance.

You must understand how this model works before the exam on 24 May.

Work for Mr. Jones - Friday 24 March

Year 12

You may either continue work on spreadsheets, such as finishing off any work Mrs Lunn has set or using the Thomas Telford materials to improve your spreadsheet skills

or complete the database assignment documentation needed for Unit 2 . The completed e-portfolio needs to be handed in to me on Friday 7 April, 2006.

All work must be available to copy to the school network from your laptop, pendrive or a CD. There are no excuses for hardware or system failures.

Year 13

The April 7th deadline is looming ever closer. On this day you must be able to give me a full copy of your documentation and website. Continue with this work today, but remember that the testing, feedback and evaluation sections are every bit as importnat as the website itself.
